Board prospectus
A small board for a program that has to stay disciplined.
Dignity Law Group sits inside The Dignity Imperative. The board supports legal and ethical foundations, supervises executive leadership as it is hired, and keeps the program accountable to communities and to the lawyers who carry the work.
What is asked
- Four meetings a year, in person or hybrid.
- Judgment on scope, partnerships, and risk—not operations.
- Personal giving, introductions, or both.
- A two-year term. The first year is formative.
- Ambassadorial work inside your own field.
- Refusal to expand faster than supervision and insurance allow.
Five seats, not a crowd
Leader
Legal or nonprofit leader with governance experience.
Controller
Financial oversight, nonprofit or congregational.
Community
Someone rooted where the program actually works—not a symbolic seat.
Legal
Practicing or retired attorney with bar and ethics judgment.
Faith bridge
Pastoral leadership that understands community justice without turning the clinic into a pulpit.
Earlier drafts assumed first clinics in Napier and Millersville on a 2025 calendar. That timeline has passed, and Napier now has its own legal-access partnership. The board’s first work is to confirm bylaws, leadership, risk, and a first geography chosen by evidence.
Who belongs
Three to five people who bring at least one of these: a legal career, nonprofit governance, ties to the communities under diligence, pastoral leadership with a justice practice, or the ability to open a durable funding relationship.
Serving here is oversight, and it is also an invitation to help make justice in Tennessee more usable.
